AUBURN NOW WILL BE COVERED BY NEMAHA COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE

By Nate Gonner 12/31/2012

THE NEW YEAR MEANS BIG CHANGES FOR THE POLICE COVERAGE IN AUBURN. THANKS TO CITY COUNCIL AND COUNTY COMISSION APPROVAL, TOMORROW THE AUBURN POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL DISSOLVE AND JOIN THE NEMAHA COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT.

ACCORDING TO AUBURN MAYOR SCOTT KUDNA, THE MOVE TO COUNTRY COVERAGE WILL SAVE THE AUBURN TAX PAYERS 120 THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR FOR THE SAME OR POSSIBLY BETTER COVERAGE.

ACCCORDING TO SHERIFF BRENT LOTTMAN, THE CHANGE WILL BENEFIT FROM A SCHEDULING ASPECT, BUT WON'T BE MUCH DIFFERENT IN HIS OPINION AS BOTH THE SHERIFFS OFFICE AND AUBURN POLICE DEPARTMENT HAVE BEEN HOUSED IN THE SAME BUILDING FOR YEARS.

THE SHERIFFS OFFICE HIRED DAN WHITE OF AUBURN TO FILL THE VACANT AUBURN POLICE OFFICER VACANCY RECENTLY.

WHITE AND THE THREE OTHER AUBURN OFFICERS WILL BE SWORN IN TODAY AS MEMBERS OF THE NEMAHA COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE.
