BPW SAYS RATES HIGHER BECAUSE OF INFASTRUCTURE IMPROVMENTS

NATE GONNER-12/19/2012

THE MANAGER OF THE AUBURN BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS SAYS IT’S UNFAIR TO COMPARE AUBURN TO OTHER TOWNS IN A NEBRASKA MUNICIPAL POWER POOLS SURVEY ON RATES BECAUSE THOSE TOWNS HAVEN’T HAD RENOVATIONS TO THEIR FACITILIES.

KNCY NEWS REPORTED LAST WEEK THAT MAYOR SCOTT KUDNA WAS FRUSTRATED AT THE RATES FOR WATER AND SEWER THE PUBLIC WORKS WERE OFFERING TO AUBURN RESIDENTS BECAUSE THEY WERE 164% AND HIGHER THAN COMMUNITIES ON THE NMPP SURVEY OF RATES FROM 2011.

ACCORDING TO BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS MANAGER DAVE HUNTER, MANY OF THE TOWNS ON THAT LIST DIDN’T JUST RECENTLY UPDATE INFASTRUCTURE.

NOT ONLY DID THE PUBLIC WORKS PUT IN A NEW WATER TREATMENT FACITLITY BUT THEY ALSO UPDATED THE WASTEWATER TREATMENT FACILITY AS WELL, A 15 MILLION DOLLAR EXPENSE IN A TWO YEAR TIME FRAME.

ACCORDING TO HUNTER, AUBURN RESIDENTS AVERAGE MONTH RATE FOR WATER IS JUST OVER 36 DOLLARS, WHILE SEWER IS ALMOST 43 DOLLARS.

HE ENCOURAGES ANYONE WHO HAS A QUESTION ABOUT THEIR BILL RATES TO CALL HIS OFFICE AT (402) 274-4981.
