USPS IS DISCUSSING CUTTING HOURS AT RURAL OFFICE IN SE NEBRAKSA  

 

            A HANDFUL OF SOUTHEAST NEBRASKA RURAL POST OFFICES WILL BE HOLDING PUBLIC MEETINGS THIS MONTH TO DISCUSS THE POSSIBILITY OF CUTTING HOURS AT THEIR LOCATIONS.

 

              THE UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE IS SEARCHING FOR WAYS TO CUT COSTS IN RESPONSE TO A 25-PERCENT DROP IN MAIL VOLUME IN THE PAST FIVE YEARS.

 

              ONE OPTION DISCUSSED BY USPS IS THE CUTTING OF HOURS AT RURAL POST OFFICES ACROSS THE COUNTRY.

 

              ALREADY A DOZEN OF MEETING ARE SCHEDULED IN NEBRASKA OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS TO DISCUSS POST OFFICES FROM CUTTING WINDOW HOURS FROM EIGHT TO AS LOW AS 2 HOURS A DAY AT SOME LOCATIONS.

 

              ACCORDING TO USPS THE CUTTING OF RURAL POST OFFICE HOURS NATIONWIDE WOULD SAVE THE COMPANY UP TO 500 MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR.

 

              IN THE KNCY LISTENING AREA THE TOWNS OF DUNBAR, ELK CREEK, NEMAHA, BROWNVILLE, AND CRAB ORCHARD HAVE ALREADY SCHEDULED MEETING REGARDING THE POSSIBLE CHANGES HAPPENING AT THEIR BRANCH.

        CRAB ORCHARD-TUESDAY OCTOBER 9TH AT 6PM AT CRAB ORCHARD’S COMMUNITY CENTER

         DUNBAR-THURSDAY OCTOBER 25TH AT 6PM AT THE DUNBAR PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

         ELK CREEK-TUESDAY OCTOBER 23RD AT 6PM AT THE ELK CREEK POST OFFICE

         NEMAHA-THURSDAY OCTOBER 18TH AT 6PM AT THE NEMAHA COMMUNITY BUILDING
