PERU STATE COLLEGE AMONG FOUR COLLEGE'S WHO HAD INFO BREACHED 

              AN ILLEGIAL INTRUSION OF COMPUTER RECORDS AT THE NEBRASKA STUDENT INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR NEBRASKA STATE COLLEGES HAS EXPOSED SOME STUDENTS PERSONAL INFORMATION AT A HANDFUL OF STATE COLLEGES INCLUDING PERU STATE.

 

              A LETTER OBTAINED BY KNCY NEWS STATES THAT ON MAY 23RD THERE WAS UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS INTO THE NEBRASKA STUDENT INFORMATION SYSTEM, GAINING ACCESS TO STUDENTS SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER, LIMITED STUDENT IMMUNIZATION INFORMATION, NEBRASKA UNIVERSIAL IDENTIFICATION, AND ADDRESS.

 

              .ACCORDING TO THE LETTER THE INVESTIGATION IS STILL ONGOING BUT THE DATABASE THAT WAS BREACHED DIDN’T HOLD ANY STUDENT FINAINCIAL INFORMATION INCLUDING CREDIT CARD OR STUDENT BANK INFORMATION.

 

              AT FIRST TECHNICAL STAFF THOUGHT RECORDS OF STUDENTS FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA LINCOLN WERE THE ONLY STUDENTS AFFECTED.

 

              FURTHER INVESTIGATION INTO THE MATTER SHOWED THAT THE DATA CRACK ALSO INCLUDED PERSONAL INFORMATION FROM THREE OTHER NEBRASKA STATE COLLEGES INCLUDING: CHADRON STATE, WAYNE STATE, AND PERU STATE.

 

              POLICE SEIZED COMPUTERS AND RELATED EQUIPMENT BELONGING TO A UNIVERSITY OF LINCOLN UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT WHO IS BELIEVED TO BE INVOLVED IN THIS INCIDENT.
