GARRETT AGAINST POOL BEING PUT IN ON CENTRAL AVENUE

A NEBRASKA CITY RESIDENT LIVING ON THE WEST SIDE OF CENTRAL AVENUE IS SPEAKING OUT ABOUT THE CITY POTENTIALLY PUTTING A POOL IN THE OPEN PARK ACROSS THE STREET FROM HIS HOME.

IN AN INTERVIEW WITH KNCY NEWS, LEONARD GARRETT SAID HE VOTED AGAINST THE CITY'S ATTEMPT TO PAY FOR A NEW POOL WITH A HALF CENT SALE TAX INCREASE IN NOVEMBER SOLELY BECAUSE OF THE POOL'S PROPOSED LOCATION, AND SAYS HE ISN’T THE ONLY PERSON WHO DID SO.

GARRETT WANTS TO STRESS HIS NEIGHBORHOOD IS NOT AGAINST A NEW POOL FOR NEBRASKA CITY.

GARRETT ALSO TALKED ABOUT THE NOISE A POOL WOULD BRING, SAYING THERE ARE ALREADY NEIGHBORS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE NOISE ON CENTRAL AVENUE DUE TO THE SKATE PARK, AND IT WOULD ONLY MAGNIFY IF A POOL WAS PUT IN THE PARK.

THE SPLASH COMMITTEE DISCUSSED THE LOCATION ISSUE AT THEIR LAST MEETING ON JUNE 26TH, AND ESSENTIALLY NARROWED THE POTENTIAL LOCATIONS TO THE WEST SIDE OF CENTRAL AVENUE OR AT ITS CURRENT LOCATION IN STEINHART PARK.

CONCERNS WITH KEEPING THE POOL IN THE ORIGINAL LOCATION INCLUDE THE CITY BEING WITHOUT A POOL FOR ONE OR TWO SWIM SEASON, COSTING THE TOWN POTENTIAL REVENUE AND AFFECTING THE NEBRASKA CITY SWIM TEAM.
