25K VISITED NEBRASKA CITY DURING FIRST APPLE BLOSSOM FESTIVAL

By Nate Gonner 4/30/2013

ONE OF NEBRASKA CITY’S ORCHARDS IS TRYING TO BRING BACK A FESTIVAL THAT WAS STARTED IN THE COMMUNITY BACK IN THE LATE 1930’S.

THE APPLE BLOSSOM FESTIVAL HAS BEEN ON AND OFF HERE IN NEBRASKA CITY SINCE THE SPRING OF 1938, BUT IT HAS NEVER BEEN THE SAME SINCE THE ARMISTICE DAY FREEZE OF 1940 THAT WIPED OUT NEARLY ALL THE ORCHARDS TREES IN NEBRASKA CITY AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES.

ACCORDING TO THE CO-GENERAL MANAGER OF THE KIMMEL ORCHARD ERIC OLSON, OVER 25 THOUSAND PEOPLE WERE IN NEBRASKA CITY FOR THE FIRST APPLE BLOSSOM FESTIVAL, WHICH WOULD RIVAL TODAY’S APPLE JACK AND ARBOR DAY NUMBERS.

OLSON SAYS SO FAR THIS YEAR, THE ORCHARD HAS ALREADY SEEN BLOOMS ON THE PEACH, CHERRY, PEAR AND PLUM TREES.

HE SAYS THE APPLES WON’T BE TOO FAR BEHIND.

              OLSON AUDIO:

NOW KNCY IS HELPING YOU RELIVE THE APPLE BLOSSOM FESTIVAL BY HAVING YOU GUESS WHEN YOU THINK THE FIRST FULL APPLE TREE WILL BLOOM.
