MEASURE ALLOWS TEACHERS TO LEGALLY CARRY GUNS AT SCHOOL

By Nate Gonner 3/18/2013

A SOUTHEAST NEBRASKA STATE SENATOR SAYS HE WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE STATE TAKE A LOOK AT A PROPOSAL JUST APPROVED BY THE STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA THAT ALLOWS TEACHERS TO CARRY A GUN AT SCHOOL.

ALMOST TWO WEEKS AGO, THE GOVERNOR OF SOUTH DAKOTA DENNIS DAUGAARD MADE HIS STATE THE FIRST IN THE NATION TO ALLOW TEACHERS TO CARRY FIREARMS.

STATE SENATOR BILL KINTNER OF PAPILLION HAS BEEN ON THE RECORD SAYING HE SUPPORTS THE IDEA OF ARMING TEACHERS, BUT UNDERSTANDS THAT THE IDEA IS NOT FOR EVERY SCHOOL DISTRICT.

KINTNER MENTIONED LEGISLATIVE BILL LB-346, INTRODUCED BY SENATOR BILL KOLOWSKI, WHICH WOULD AUTHORIZE SCHOOL DISTRICTS TO LEVY A TAX AND EXCEED BUDGET AUTHORITY FOR SCHOOL SECURITY MEASURES.

KINTER SAYS HE DOESN’T SUPPORT THE MEASURE BECAUSE IT’S A POLICY OF RAISE TAXES NOW AND ASK QUESTIONS LATER.
