LAWTON PLEADS NOT GUILTY IN UNINTENTIONAL DEATH OF PERKINS

By Nate Gonner 3/06/2013

THE MAN ACCUSED OF HITTING THE LATE WILLIE PERKINS IN A NEBRASKA CITY CROSS WALK LAST NOVEMBER IS ON HIS WAY TOWARDS A TRIAL IN THE CASE.

64 YEAR OLD LARRY LAWTON OF NEBRASKA CITY HAD HIS FIRST APPERANCE IN OTOE COUNTY COURT ON MONDAY, WHERE HE PLEAD NOT GUILTY TO ONE COUNT OF VEHICULAR HOMICIDE, A CLASS ONE MISDERMEANOR, AND 3 TRAFFIC INFRACTIONS INVOLVING UNSAFE TURNING WHILE A PEDESTRIAN IS IN THE CROSS WALK.

OTOE COUNTY PROSECUTING ATTORNEY DAVE PARTCH DECIDED TO PROCEED WITH CHARGING LAWTON WITH PERKIN’S UNINTENTIONAL DEATH AFTER RECEIVING NEW FINDINGS IN THE AUTOPSEY REPORT FROM THE DOUGLAS COUNTY CORONER OFFICE LAST MONTH.

THE PROSECUTING OFFICE HAS REQUESTED A PRETRAIL HEARING IN THE CASE, WHICH IS EXPECTED TO BE SET FOR FRIDAY, APRIL 12TH.
