CAMPUS CONTINUALLY UPDATING SAFETY MEASURES

             IN THE WAKE OF SEVERAL SCHOOL SHOOTINGS AROUND THE NATION, PERU STATE COLLEGE SAYS THEY ARE CONSTANTLY EVALUATING THEIR SAFETY PROCEDURES TO MAKE SURE THEIR STUDENT AND FACULTY FEEL AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE.

 

              KNCY NEWS LOOKED INTO SCHOOL SAFETY ON THE PERU STATE COLLEGE CAMPUS AFTER AN OUTBREAK OF GUNMAN MAKING THEIR WAY ONTO GRADE SCHOOL AND COLLEGE CAMPUS’S IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS, INCLUDING AT AN ALLEGED GUNMAN BEING REPORTED ON THE UNIVERISTY OF NEBRASKA KEARNEY CAMPUS ON MONDAY.

 

              PERU STATE WAS IN THE SPOTLIGHT REGARDING SCHOOL SAFETY BACK IN DECEMBER OF 2010, WHEN FRESHMAN TYLER THOMAS DISAPEARED AFTER WALKING BACK TO THE DORMS FROM A PARTY AND VANISHED.

 

              THOMAS TO THIS DAY HAS STILL NOT BE FOUND.

 

              IN AN INTERVIEW WITH KNCY NEWS, VICE PRESIDENT OF ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT AND STUDENT AFFAIRS MICHAELA WILLIS SAID THE COLLEGE HAS IMPROVED SAFETY MEASURES ON CAMPUS SINCE THOMAS’S DISSAPERANCE, BUT THAT THE MEASURES WERE IN THE PLANS BEFORE SHE DISSAPEARED.

             WILLIS ADDED THIS SUMMER THE COLLEGE DID INSTALLL A KEY CARD ACCESS SYSTEM WHICH ALLOWS CAMPUS SECURITY TO MONITOR WHO IS GOING IN AND OUT OF RESIDENCE HALLS THROUGH THE MAIN ENTERANCES.
