BOTH BILLS WOULD HURT NEAR FUTURE GROWH PROJECTS FOR NEB CITY

             CITY OFFICIALS FOR NEBRASKA CITY PLAN TO BE IN LINCOLN A WEEK FROM TODAY AS THEY FIGHT TO KEEP TWO PIECES OF LEGISLATION FROM GETTING OUT OF LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE.

 

              NEXT WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 27TH TWO PIECES OF LEGISLATION THAT COULD HARM THE FUTURE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF NEBRASKA CITY WILL HAVE THEIR LEGISLATIVE HEARINGS.

 

              THE BILLS INCLUDE LB-266 PROPOSED BY SENATOR ERNIE CHAMBERS REPEALING A LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX TO BE USED ON PUBLIC INFASTRUCTURE ONLY, AND LB-531 INTRODUCED BY SENATOR DANIELLE CONRAD, WHICH WOULD REPEAL THE BUILD NEBRASKA ACT, WHICH CURRENTLY GIVES A PORTION OF SALES TAX MONEY TO BE USED FOR STATE ROAD PROJECTS.

 

              CITY ADMINISTRATOR JOE JOHNSON SAYS BOTH REPEALS WOULD HURT THE GROWING NATURE OF NEBRASKA CITY.

              THE NEBRASKA DEPARTMENT OF ROADS HAS SAID THE CONSTRUCTION OF AN OVERPASS AT THE INTERSECTION OF HIGHWAY 2 AND 75 IS RIGHT NOW SCHEDULED TO START WORK IN 2016.

             WHILE CITY OFFICIALS ARE HOPING TO PUT LB-357 ON THE BALLOT FOR JUST A SWIMMING POOL IN MAY OF 2014.
