HEIDEMANN JUST FINISHED TWO TERMS AS DISTRICT 1'S SENATOR

By Nate Gonner 2/14/2013

AFTER TWELEVE DAYS OF SEARCHING, GOVERNOR HENIEMAN TABBED A FORMER SENATOR FROM SOUTHEAST NEBRASKA TO BE HIS SECOND IN COMMAND FOR THE REMAINER OF HIS TERM AS GOVERNOR.

54 YEAR OLD LAVON HEIDEMANN, AN ELK CREEK NATIVE AND MEMBER OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA BOARD OF REGENTS, WAS GOVERNOR DAVE HEINEMAN'S SUPRISE PICK TO REPLACE RICK SHEEY ON WEDNSDAY AFTERNOON.

HEIDEMANN REPRESENTED SOUTHEAST NEBRASKA'S 1ST DISTRICT FOR EIGHT YEARS IN THE LEGISLATURE UNTIL BEING BARRED BY TERM LIMITS FROM SEEKING REELECTION LAST YEAR.

SIX OF THOSE YEARS WERE SPENT AS THE HEAD OF THE BUDGET WRITING APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE.

THERE WERE AS MANY AS THREE OTHER STATE SENATORS BEING MENTIONED AS POSSIBLE CANDIDATES TO REPLACE SHEEHY.

GOVERNOR HEINEMAN WILL APPOINT A REGENT TO FILL HEIDEMANN'S SEAT ON THE BOARD OF REGENTS.
