              THE PASTOR OF ST BENEDICT’S CHURCH AND PRINCIPAL OF LOURDES CENTRAL CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL SAYS HE WAS JUST AS SURPRISED AS MOST CATHOLICS WERE MONDAY MORNING ON THE NEWS OF POPE BENEDICT XVI RESIGNING FROM HIS POST AT THE END OF THE MONTH.

 

              THE POPE CITED HIS DETERIORATING HEALTH AS THE REASONS FOR STEPPING DOWN.

 

              THE MOVE COMES JUST DAYS BEFORE ASH WEDNESDAY, THE BEGINNING OF LENT IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH.

 

              FATHER CYZA, THE PASTOR OF ST BENEDICT CATHOLIC CHURCH AND PRINCIPAL OF LOURDES CENTRAL CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL IN NEBRASKA CITY, SAYS THE MOVE TO RESIGN AT THIS TIME IS FITTING.

              FATHER CYZA SAYS LOURDES CENTRAL CATHOLIC COMMERERATED WAS LUCKY TO HAVE  BISHOP CONNELLY FROM LINCOLN AT MONDAY MORNING’S MASS TO PUT THE HISTORY IN CONTEXT FOR THE STUDENTS.  

 

              ACCORDING TO FATHER CYZA, POPE BENEDICT THE 16TH IS THE FIRST POPE TO RESIGN IN ALMOST 600 YEARS.
