HIGH WIND GUSTS CAUSING 2 TO 3 FEET DRIFTS IN SOME AREAS

By Nate Gonner 1/30/2013

THANKS TO HIGH WIND GUSTS ACROSS SOUTHEAST NEBRASKA, IT HAS BEEN HARD TO GET ACCURATE SNOW FALL TOTALS FROM AROUND THE LISTENING AREA TODAY.

THE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCIES IN OTOE, JOHNSON, RICHARDSON, AND CASS COUNTIES HAVE ESTIMATED ANYWHERE BETWEEN 4 TO 6 INCHES IN EACH OF THERE COUNTIES WITH CALLS TO NEMAHA AND PAWNEE COUNTY GOING UNANSWERED.

EACH COUNTY IS REPORTING THAT WIND IS MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO DETERMINE AN EXACT FIGURE AS SOME AREAS INCLUDING IN CASS AND RICHARDSON COUNTY ARE REPORTING DRIFTS 2 TO 3 FEET HIGH IN SOME AREAS.

THE ESTIMATE IS SLIGHTLY MORE THAN WHAT THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE REPORTED TO KNCY YESTERDAY MORNING, WHEN THEY SAID MOST OF SOUTHEAST NEBRASKA WOULD SEE ANYWHERE BETWEEN 2 TO 4 INCHES.

IN OTHER SNOW RELATED NEWS NEBRASKA CITY PUBLIC PROPERTY’S MANAGER DAN GIITTINGER HAS ISSUED A SNOW EMERGENCY FOR THIS EVENING, AND INTO THE EARLY MORNING HOURS OF THURSDAY AS THE CITY TRIES TO REMOVE SNOW FROM THE DOWNTOWN AREA.

GITTINER DID SAY THE PUBLIC PARKING LOTS WILL BE OPEN FOR PEOPLE TO USE WHILE THEY CLEAR THE SNOW.

FINALLY WE HAVE CANCELLATIONS OF EVENING ACTIVITES AROUND THE LISTENING AREA.

THE FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH IN NEBRASKA CITY, AND THE LUTHERAN MEMORIAL CHURCH IN SYRACUSE HAVE CANCELLED ALL ACTIVITES FOR THIS EVENING.

AND THE BURR FOOD BANK DISTRIBUTION HAS BEEN POSTPONED FOR THIS EVENING.
