DIECAST PART OF PLANT TO BE DISCONTINUED IN SEPTEMBER

             THE SPECULATION SURROUNDING THE AMERICAN METER PLANT IN NEBRASKA CITY BECAME OFFICIAL MONDAY MORNING IN A STATEMENT RELEASED BY THE COMPANY.

 

              IT HAS BEEN REPORTED TO KNCY NEWS LATE LAST WEEK FROM PEOPLE CLOSE TO MEMBERS INSIDE THE AMERICAN METER PLANT IN NEBRASKA CITY, THAT THE COMPANY WAS CONSIDERING CLOSING THEIR DIECAST PART OF THE PLANT, WHICH WOULD AFFECT THE JOB STATUS OF ANYWHERE BETWEEN 50 TO 150 EMPLOYEES AND THAT THE MOVE WILL TAKE EFFECT THIS COMING SEPTEMBER.

 

              AMERICAN METER RELEASED A STATEMENT TO KNCY NEWS ON MONDAY STATING:::

 

              “ELSTER IS CONTINUALLY EVALUATING OUR BUSINESS STRATEGIES AND PROCESS IMPROVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES SO THAT WE REMAIN COMPETITVE IN THE MARKETPLACE. AFTER CAREFUL ANALYSIS AND CONSIDERATION, WE ANNOUNCED WE WILL BE DISCONTINUING THE ALUMINUM DIECAST OPERATION IN NEBRASKA CITY. THE ANTICIPATED END DATE FOR THIS OPERATION IS SEPTEMBER 30, 2013. NO FURTHER DETAILS ARE AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME. WE WILL CONTINUE TO COMMUNICATE WITH OUR EMPLOYEES TO ENSURE THEY HAVE THE MOST UP-TO-DATE INFORMATION."

 

             AMERICAN METER DIDN'T COMMENT ON HOW MANY EMPLOYEES THIS COULD EFFECT OR IF THEY WOULD KEEP THE EMPLOYEES ON IN A DIFFERENT CAPACITY.

             ACCORDING TO THE NEBRASKA STATE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENTS WEBSITE, AMERICAN METER IS THE LARGEST EMPLOYER IN NEBRASKA CITY.
