MAYORS OF NEB CITY, AUBURN, AND SYRACUSE AT MEET AND GREET

By Nate Gonner 1/03/2013

ONE WEEK BEFORE THEY WILL REPRESENT SOUTHEAST NEBRASKA IN LINCOLN, THE 1ST AND 2ND DISTRICT STATE SENATORS WERE TALKING WITH RESIDENTS AND CITY OFFICIALS OF NEBRASKA CITY, AUBURN, AND SYRACUSE WEDNESDAY EVENING.

AROUND 40 PEOPLE, INCLUDING MAYOR HOBBIE OF NEBRASKA CITY, SCOTT KUNDA OF AUBURN, AND KC ORTIZ OF SYRACUSE TOOK THE OPPROTUNITY TO MEET WITH STATE SENATORS DAN WATERMEIRE OF SYRACUSE AND BILL KINTNER OF PAPPILION AT ARBOR LODGE STATE HISTORICAL PARK IN TOWN.

WATERMEIRE SAID HE CHATTED WITH RESIDENTS ON A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT TOPICS.

"WELL THEY WERE ANXIOUS TO BEND MY EAR A BIT ON TAXES, THEY ARE ANXIOUS TO TALK ABOUT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT" WATERMEIRE SAID, "SEEMS LIKE NEBRASKA CITY ALWAYS (HAS) BEEN A DRIVER FOR THAT AND I ALWAYS ADMIRE THAT ALWAYS AM CONCERNED ABOUT KEEPING THOSE FUNDS COMING."

KINTNER, WHO RAN ON A PLATFORM OF CUTTING TAXES FOR RESIDENTS, SAYS HE TALKED WITH CITY OFFICIALS ABOUT CUTTING THE RIGHT TAXES THAT WON’T HURT THE DEVELOPMENT OF TOWNS IN SOUTHEAST NEBRASKA.

"THEY DON'T HAVE A LOT OF OPTIONS FOR RAISING MONEY. SO WE CUT A TAX AT THE STATE LEVEL AND IT IMPACTS THE LOCALS WE GOT TO MAKE SURE WE REPLACE THAT MONEY. KINTNER SAID, "I AM ALL FOR TAX CUTS, BUT I AM NOT FOR PASSING IT FROM THE STATE AND TELLING THE CITY OR COUNTY HEY GOOD LUCK IN REPLACING THAT MONEY."

WATERMEIRE AND KINTNER WILL MAKE THEIR DEBUT IN LINCOLN WHEN THE LEGISLATURE MEETS FOR THE FIRST TIME ON WEDNESDAY JANUARY 9TH.
